Altrusa is an international non-profit organisation making our local communities better through leadership, partnership, and service.

Our club offers an opportunity to make a real difference in Timaru. We undertake a variety of service, literacy and fundraising projects each year.

We are seeking new volunteers to join our organisation and make a difference. Our members are from varying occupations and lifestyles, all sharing an interest in community service and enjoying the friendship, fun and satisfaction that comes from working together for the benefit of others.

Our Projects

Presented books to five primary schools using funds raised at a market day, and bring & buys at our Club meetings.

A Taste of India fundraising evening for Aikya School in India saw 60 people enjoying a two course meal with Indian beer, application of henna tattoos, and an Indian dancing demonstration.

Books and Bubbles on the Bay celebrating Children’s Day 2015. Over 500 books were given away to children attending this day of celebration for families and many hundreds of bubbles wafted high above the activities taking place during Children’s Day.

Service Committee delivered our ‘Little Bags of Love’ to the Emergency Department at Timaru Hospital to keep little ones amused as they wait to be seen by a Doctor.

Teaching the Timaru Teen Parent Group to knit – peggy squares, woolly hats and vests were all created by the Mum’s under the watchful eye of Altrusans. Many conversations were shared as the needles clicked along the rows.
